monday1:
we had around a two and a half hours drive from adelaide. Then we arrived at wambana, point turton. we unloaded all our stuff from the buss and dumped it under the bbq shelter. we had lunch. we then had a safety talk, and learnt our fire evacuation routes. then we went to a building called the classroom, because it was. we stared to open and save our files from powerhouse, after we started writing on wikispaces our blog site. at some time in the late afternoon in the classroom we found out our wardli's. im in wardli number five with harriet, sarah, chloe and lottie. we then moved all our stuff into the warlis and had a barbeque for dinner. after dinner we had 45mins of clean up and then back to the classroom. after that we had an hour til lights out, at ten.
tuesday1:
morning fitness, played an active game, but i have no idea of what its called.. Well we need food to survive for the next three weeks. so we went shopping at yorketown. all wardlis had a budget depending on how many people was in their wardli. ours was i think around $420 but $100 was taken off for our pre ordered meat and bread. we pretty much bought all black and gold products and still went over our budget by $5. when we got back we had an hour and a half to have lunch and unpack our food and be back in the classroom for work. at 4 we had free time, so i went with laura to check out the beach, then at 5 we had chill out. no talk or commnication. at 6 to 7:30 we have dinner and cleaning time we had vegetarian risotto for dinner and icecream for desert. at 7 30 to 9 we went back to the classroom to blog. lights out at 10.
wednesday1:
we had morning fitness, a 3.2km run; to the rocks and back. that started at 7 15, after you have to record your heart rate and time and write it on the white board, then we had breakfast. we had to be on the bus by 8 30, we were heading up to kadina, and on the way through we stopped in maitland and we all spent $60 in a op-shop. i bought a beautiful dress. we arrived in kadina after and hour and a half and went in the the visitor center dressed in our vintage clothes from the op-shop. beyond the visitor center was some old museums, one was a walk through olden day house, another was a olden farming museam and the last one was a old school. it was a fun day. from there we drove to the moonta museum, and looked at the mining history. i learnt that the copper purity was like 30-40%, compared to nowadays' 1.2%. young children worked in the mine early before school and had a maximum wage of 6 cents. if they werent doing their jobs right the wages go down so they end up with earning like 2cents a day. from there we drove home and had free time and chill out. we then had dinner and soon we were back in the classroom
thursday1:
i think we had a little bit of a sleep in, but we still had to be on the bus by 9. for a long drive to innes national park. we arrived at about 10 30. it was quite warm and the mosquitos were already out at this time of year, and apparently we are lucky as many more pests haven't come out yet. anyway, we loaded up with aerogaurd and sunscreen and were instructed by park ranger Van, to pull out the aggressive and spreadable weed called polygala. with many hands we covered alot of area, something that would have taken the two and a half park rangers a long time to cover. we were at it for a good our and a half. many of us had suffered form the bull-ants, standing in a nest while trying to pull out weeds. then we had a long awaited toilet break and were back on the bus to travel to the other side of the national park. we stopped and had lunch on a beach were a young sailor drowned in rough seas trying to harbour their ship, when the next day bought a calmer ocean. the ship was then beached for a year and a bit when the crew was rescued and brought to port adelaide. the swell that day was nice and big that day and the water looked amaazing. then travelled just a bit further to another beach and picked up rubbish. we walked around 5km in sand just in the beach clean up. those beaches looked so good it was so tempting to go for a swim. we went back to the camp site for another toilet break, this time in a long drop :O..they actually smell sooo bad, that its better to squat behind a bush and do business there. anyway, we were back on the bus. Van told us about a native australian bird that is native to sa, so its really rare- only at innes. well we looked at its nest and it pretty much looked like a giant ant nest. he said that they spend all day building the nest up to heat the eggs when its cold and cool the down when its hot. they do this daily. the bird is called a mallee fowl and it is the size of a chicken. we then went into a restriced area of the park where there was an old gypsum mine; (miners mined by hand) lots of really salty, shallow pools, it looked really pretty. the salt was something like four times saltier than the ocean. then we went back to base camp to set up camp and have dinner on the trangeas. our wardli had pasta, it took ages to cook because all of the pasta couldn't fit in the pan at once. we had to lean up and be back on the bus to go on a night walk looking for wallabies. it was quite fun. we saw a few wallibies. a few yeas ago the y were really losing their numbers so they put them in nz, then they became a pest, so they were brought back over hear in like 2001 and one or two of them is still there. we headed back to base where i had the worst sleep ever.
